About Midhati Legal Aid Foundation

Every institution begins with a question. For Midhati, that question was simple: why do so many ordinary, law-abiding citizens still feel powerless when legal problems arise?

The answer was rarely the law itself — it was often on their side. What was missing was awareness: a clear, trustworthy bridge between the statute and the person sitting across the table with worried eyes and papers they could not fully understand.

Midhati Legal Aid Foundation was established to be that bridge — not as a conventional law firm, but as a foundation working at ground level with real people, in language they can understand and act upon.

We have seen families lose property, consumers cheated, employees silenced, and senior citizens defrauded — not because the law failed them, but because they never knew it was on their side. That knowledge gap is what we exist to close.

Midhati — a Marathi word for mediation and guidance — reflects our philosophy: we seek resolution, awareness, and empowerment rather than confrontation. A legally literate citizen is among the strongest safeguards a democracy has.

This Foundation was built not on profit, but on the belief that legal awareness is public service — and that sincere public service can quietly transform a community.

The Values That Guide Every Step We Take.

At Midhati, our principles are not decorations — they shape how we speak, research, and measure whether we have done our work well.

Justice

A practical outcome we pursue one consultation at a time. Every citizen carries the right to justice; they need help finding the door.

Integrity

We never overstate what we can do or manufacture false hope. Honest guidance — even when difficult — is the only kind we offer.

Accessibility

Our services and language are structured so citizens who have never spoken to a lawyer can approach us without intimidation or fear of cost.

Transparency

Every person understands what we can help with, what outcomes are realistic, and what steps lie ahead. No fine print. No surprises.

Compassion

Behind every legal problem is a human being — often frightened and exhausted. Being heard is itself a form of justice.

Social Responsibility

Beyond consultations, we engage communities through legal literacy workshops, RTI camps, and education that builds lasting awareness.

Vision & Mission

Our Vision

To build a society where legal awareness is universal — where no citizen is powerless through ignorance of their rights, and justice is accessible regardless of economic standing. We envision an India where the law protects every citizen's dignity and freedom, not only the privileged.

Our Mission

  • Provide reliable, affordable, and compassionate legal guidance to all citizens — especially those who are marginalised or underrepresented.
  • Promote legal literacy through workshops, public education programmes, RTI assistance camps, and accessible online resources.
  • Uphold the highest standards of professional ethics in every interaction, consultation, and legal matter we handle.

Advocate Arundhati Garad is the Founder and Chairperson of Midhati Legal Aid Foundation. Before entering law, she built a successful career across industrial sectors and internationally recognised organisations. Her background in engineering, technology, management, and corporate operations brings rare leadership, strategic rigour, and practical insight to legal practice.

Despite an accomplished corporate career, she chose law to serve society — to promote legal awareness and help ordinary citizens protect their rights. For ten years she has practised and served through the Foundation, approaching this work not as a profession alone, but as a calling.

She has handled and assisted matters before the High Court, District and Civil Courts, Family Courts, Consumer Forums, Cooperative Courts, and quasi-judicial authorities. Working closely with senior advocates, she mentors young professionals committed to public service — and works to make the law understandable to every citizen.

"She believes that the law is not merely a mechanism for resolving disputes but a powerful instrument for protecting dignity, safeguarding rights, and enabling every citizen of India to live with justice, confidence, and peace."

A Deeper Responsibility to Society.

Legal service, at its best, is public service. Every consultation, document, RTI application, and awareness workshop is a contribution toward a society where citizens are not at the mercy of legal ignorance.

We take legal awareness to communities, colleges, housing societies, and public forums — explaining RTI in plain language, guiding consumer grievances to the right forum, and showing how constitutional protections apply to everyday life.

Why Citizens Choose to Come to Us.

Trust is built through consistent behaviour — how a person is received, how honestly their situation is assessed, and how patiently complex law is explained in plain language.

People come to Midhati because they hear — from neighbours, relatives, colleagues — that here they will not be dismissed, overcharged, or told their problem is too small. When a matter is outside our scope, we say so and point them in the right direction.

Law in the Service of Community.

Legal awareness is a civic necessity — yet millions remain unaware of rights the Constitution already grants them. They endure injustice silently, sign documents they do not understand, and abandon grievances the law would remedy.

Through workshops on consumer, property, women's, and RTI rights, we meet communities where they are. Equal access to justice is not merely a legal principle — it is a moral imperative. Every awareness session, RTI filed, and complaint guided to the right forum is a step toward a society this Foundation was built to support.

You Do Not Have to Face This Alone.

Legal problems feel enormous without guidance — manageable once you understand your rights and options. The law, at its best, is on your side; you need someone to help you see it clearly.

That is what Midhati is here for: to simplify complexity, inform your judgment, and walk alongside you. No question is too basic, no citizen too ordinary to deserve legal awareness. Justice is your right — we are here to help you reach it.
